    Default handbrake adjustment???

my 52 plate has failed mot on o/s handbrake being little or no effort. anybody know hoe to adjust the handbrake as i have looked in to it and heard different theories, some people say its self adjusting and some say the adjuster is on the lever. the n/s is working fine and the o/s foot brake is working better than the n/s

I'm will soon be going crazy, I just can't understand how to actually reset the adjuster??!! It's fully extended, and I just can't get the cable into place back at the caliper (the cable is just too tight).

I replaced the pads, but as the piston was really stuck I wasn't able to rewind it with the caliper in place, so I disconnected the handbrake cable and the brake fluid tube to be able to work with the caliper on a workbench. I was then able to rewind the piston, and the brakes are working just fine.

But the handbrake is another issue: I had trouble getting the cable back, in my opinion it was too tight, so I just left it without onnecting it to the caliper. I have now used the handbrake (only working on the left side of course) for some time now, and I would guess that the self adjusting mechanism has now tried to compensate for the slack in the cable, at least the rod inside the big spring (at the handbrake lever itself) is in it's most extended position. It doesn't seem to be possible for it to come out any further.

The brakes are working just fine, but the handbrake cable is just too tight to be able to be fitted to the caliper, it's impossible. Trust me, I have tried to force the cable there, but it's not possible.

At least I think that the handbrake self adjuster needs to be reset in some way, to make the cable "longer" again, so that I can fit it on the caliper again. Of course this will reuire me to rewind the piston again before doing so.

I have seen in this forum (and some other vectra related as well) that it should be possible to reset the adjustment mechanism, but I just can't understand how to do it? Seems like some other people have experienced the same issue, but I can't find any real instructions.

Does this require some special tool, as I understand that the rod needs to be pushed back?

You have to find a tool that fits behind white stop and push
towards spring at the same time press down on black plastic and
    lock mechanism.

Which earlier thread are you referring to? I searched but couldn't find anything.
Yes, I can of course find other threads, but the pics are just showing what I already know: there's a spring there...

What kind of tool are we talking about? A custom made, or can I use some existing?
