confused Egr valve, swirl valve problems etc..

Hi, we have the cdti vectra on 05 plate. We brought it nearly 2 years ago and haven't really had any problems until a few weeks ago...

The car wouldn't pull away at roundabouts or junctions in second gear and then wouldnt start the RAC cam out and tapped the egr valve so we got the car home and got that cleaned.

Worked fine for 40 miles and the started having acceleration problems. Hubby noticed the swirl valve cap linkage arm was laying on th engine (RAC guy had never seen one before !). My husband looked up the cheap easy fix on here and got it fixed on and the valves open. Since the. The engine management light comes on and the car goes in limp mode after 15 mins of driving and recently the emission light stays on.

Is there anything we have missed off or the guy who fitted the egr valve missed? I am trying to keep away from the garage. RAC put car on the computer and said egr valve fault was the only fault!

Please please help me as completely desperately need answers :0(

EGR valve needs cleaned at very least - or replaced and ECU software updated.

    Inlet manifold needs replaced.

Okay thanks for your help. The original valve was taken off cleaned and put back. Would the software need to be updated for that?

Manifold inlet? Would be a return to vauxhall job then?

    Thanks again for your help!

The swirl rod controls the swirl/tumble flaps on the inlet manfold. The bearings for them wear badly on the old style manifold. The new one has a different design.

The EGR valve may at the very least require a software update or it may need replaced and have the ECU updated too.

It will need to go back to Vx for the manifold unless you know a mechanic who could do it and all you need to do is get the parts.

Have rung vx and spoke to a technician who was really helpful and was quoted a grand price!!

Car is off to local garage (who fixed my meriva after formula 1 decided they needed to replace head gasket without a clue !!!) hopefully they can bring the price down?

Apparently vx have not heard of this fault????

Pmsl, if they haven't, they should have, they've had enough cars go down with it. Common faults are inlet manifold/swirl valves, EGR, DMF (on manual gearbox models) and sometimes DPF. I'm fortunate in that mine, as an 08, had revised manifold/swirl valves, EGR update and, as an automatic, has no DMF. I do have the DPF though, but so far, so good (warranty up next week)

This is very very common, look in the how 2 section im sure you could solve this by '' thouroughly stripping & cleaning the EGR ''also by drilling & parting the electrical solenoid half of the egr, Dont forget its very inportant when the EGR is off clean out the 'hole' on the manifold where the EGR was bolted on to it It always gets blocked up, plus follow the 'how 2' guide for cleaning the 'boost sensor', these are easy jobs & do not require 'skill' just take care & keep & re use the gaskets they will be fine,
