Default Standard sri spring replacements advice needed

    Yet another spring thread...

1.8 SRI 2004 with standard springs

Yes I know that many threads suggest Eibachs - however insurance cost seems to go up nearly 480quid (current paying 290 inc business miles etc)

So just need standard replacement - Vx want £210 for fronts and about £180 for rears

Surely there has to be a better way.... don't fancy paying Vx for springs with a dodgy reputation

I hear people mention KYB and Kilen ... where to get them ?

Or perhaps you have a better suggestion?

I got standard sri springs after I found out my insurance wanted an extra 600. Plus with 2 babies and a nagging wife the harder ride comfort was a small prob.
Anyway I got a friend with an account with CES. He got pair front springs for £77. rears I think are cheaper or the same tbh. They are for the sri I will get the make of them for you. I know they are manufactured in holland lol

plus if you dont mind coming to telford he can fit them. He has his own workshop/garage at his home. He is cheap too lol. Let me know and I will get ya a quote for parts and labour dude.

Thanks for the advice ... and the offer to go to Telford for fitting

JR2 --- the insurance I am with is Swiftcover and they won't cover any mods. So Go Compare directed me to Marks&Spencers who will do it for about 480.

Snap im with swiftcover lol. They are crap if u wanna add or even take away something. My renewal was end dec. I wanted to add my mom driver for 25years,full ncb they wanted extra 290. wanted to change my milage from 16000 to 10000 due to new placement with work they wanted 136 more for less milage. But they quoted me cheaper than compare markets by 20 lol without changing milage etc

If I am replacing the springs - is it worth doing the damper/strut at the same time, or do these tend to be quite robust?

The car has done 55k on original springs so was thinking of changing them as a pre-emptive strike against them braking on me at an inconvenient moment eg. ...Motorway (doing 70 of course) in outside lane

I fitted Eibachs "lowering spring" to my vec c sri, told my insurance company "Admiral" they noted the modification and sent me confirmation by post. It cost me an extra £6.80, but they did say that they would replace a broken spring "accident damaged" with only a gen. Vaux. one.....

Also with Admiral , and about to lower. £6.80 sounds good , but I think I will phone them before I lower.

I find the ride is better with -30mm eibachs than with -15mm Signum Design springs. Its definitely firmer, but far less crashy than standard. Did do B4 shocks at the same time though so it could have been them.
