Smile Work done on car today

I set out (with the help of a good friend ) to replace my brake discs and pads, if necessary. I've had the car four years and only ever touched the rear pads (over three years ago) but the brakes are still perfect! The discs and pads have a lot of life left in them yet! Quite how this is the case, I have no idea...

Next on the list was the auxiliary drive belt. It went well, apart from refitting the belt again! We ended up having to pop down to Halfords for a 15mm socket to release the belt tensioner. But the job was much easier after that.

Whilst the airbox was out (to replace the belt), I also did the airbox mod. I haven't tried the car again since because the battery is dead! So that is on charge overnight and I'll try it tomorrow. It's been getting weaker, to be honest, so it's probably replacement time. I have a couple of spare batteries in the garage, so shall try them tomorrow. They are not the same shape profile as the Vectra battery but we shall see...

But today was a good day. I haven't done any work on the engine, apart from an oil change and replacing a mass air flow sensor, before today and it went okay.

Well charging the battery helped. It was as per normal today. I have packed a spare battery and some jump leads, just in case.

I can hardly wait to try the car on a longish drive (my daily commute is almost 20 miles) with the airbox mod now done! I wonder if it will make an improvement...

I've done rear upper control arms on mine (almost a year ago), which entails removal of rear springs. I am not afraid or getting elbow deep in a car, to be honest. I restore classic cars. Modern stuff has always put me off a bit... until I got the Vec.

I have spring compressors, etc. so could tackle front struts too.

I might be doing a timing belt on mine in the not-too-distant future. Also possibly a clutch, as it is showing signs of wearing, although nothing like slipping yet. For me, it's part of the bonding experience between man and machine!

What now? Rolling road? I've never done one before! Hmmm. Could be tempted. I shall look up the details, costs, etc. Thank you for the heads up.

I shall take a look at the when and where, in that case. £30 ssems very fair. It would be good to know what sort of power the ol' girl is knocking out.

I have put myself down as a watcher for now but I am hopeful that I can get along. And yes, Basildon is not too far away.
