    Default code reader

purchased this one, as others on here have bought it. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Diagnostic-Sca...item45f2cd9c7a

Now i have an error on startup with the spanner light that goes out after a few mins, but this reader dosn't detect any codes, but will allow me to reset the light, my grandads dawoo matiz also has an error but again reader shows no codes and wont reset light, my wifes astyra 1.7 cdti has been sitting a few days and when she drove off out this afternoon, the spanner light came on along with what i think is the battery light, plugged in reader and no codes found ? and wont reset the codes, is this normal or do i have a faulty code reader.

if it goes out after a few mins/miles then it's almost certainly a glow plug chap. 99% sure. i have the exact same reader and it didn't pick up on my glow plug fault either. if u can find someone nearby with opcom/vauxcom they can confirm... or you can extract and test the plugs yourself.

I've just got one of these. Heard rumours they have trouble reading the 2.2 DTi. I've got a Vec (52) 2.2 DTi SRi and it reads them fine, although might talke two tries. On my other car - a 1.9 CDTi SRi 150 Vec (56), it reads first time every time

1 - Plug in code reader.
2 - Put key in ignition then turn on ignition. Do not start engine.
3 - Wait 30 seconds, then press "enter" on the code reader.
4 - It should stop when it shows "CAN" then read teh codes.

It only shows "live" codes when the EML light is on. I've tried this by disconnecting the MAF and it detects it fine.

It won't show "old" codes - if you disconnect and reconnect the MAF, no codes are shown.

Yes, it does pick up other codes from engine management etc... it told me I had the dreaded P1109 swirl actuator issue

It does pick up historical faults. If a fault is live then it presents them with a -P, otherwise it is a stored fault but not live.
    Hope that helps.
