The mod is to replace the manifold. ;-) The manufacturer modified the material the bearings were made of to prevent the problem from recurring.
Some people have carried out a DIY mod to the swirl bar to stop it coming off, but this is only ever a temporary fix, delaying the inevitable manifold replacement. As the swirl flap bearings wear, boost pressure leaks out through the gaps, causing poor performance, EML and lots of black smoke.
will the problem happen again if i replace the inlet manifold
As the guys say, it has to be a complete manifold change. I am having he same probes as you and have been quoted by our local vx garage £524 for parts and nearly £500 for labour. Plus they want to do the cam belt as well as that is due soon so an extra £294 is required!
Hubby is taking car to our local garage (who are fab!) just to see if there is anyway around it or making it cheaper.
We also tried the cheap fix but to no avail as now all swirl valves are stuck!
They are some really helpful guys on here who can give great advice.
Good luck!
Forgot to say vx tech this morning told me they have changed the design 4 times already and the newest manifold seems to be better but still can't be proven to last.
But the service team had never heard of this fault and were unwilling to help with cost.
Pop the swirl bar back off!, from left to right you should be able to move the 1 & 2nd but not the 3rd, you should also be able to move the 4th, if this is the case the 'fix' you have done is to tight & not allowing the bar to move, if you have used rubber tap washers the holes may be to tight, drill slightly bigger & try it again. 'ps the inlet manifold can be replaced without changing the cam belt 'if its got lots of life in it or has been done already, manifold & gasket are around £200, cambelt & pump kit around £110, without delivery ,fitting varys but being ripped off is easy!,
