    Default Leaving the brotherhood

Well, it looks like my days as a Signum owner are running out......
We've been thinking about trading the old girl in for a while, as we don't need such a big car, and she's getting on towards 7 years old now. I'm starting to worry about something expensive breaking, and a cheaper car to run would be a definite advantage. Also, it was just being used for my wife to go to work and back, as I use our Astra most of the time.
We'd had a wander around the dealers, as there are some excellent deals for VX Partners at the moment. We were looking at a Corsa, but we were both surprised to find how much we liked the new Meriva. I wouldn't have touched the old model with a bargepole, but the new car is really smart. We had a test drive in a 100 ps 1.4 NA, which convinced us we need the 1.4 turbo 120 ps engine .
We've gone for an Exclusiv in Waterworld (blue, in other words). Should be with us by the weekend.
So, Bye bye Siggy, it's been fun.
I'll still be around here for a while, though.

    Phil

Nice choice on the Meriva, my mother is currently running our demo at the moment which is the 1.4 120ps SE, the differance in drive of that to the old Meriva is night and day, you should be very happy with your new car.

Sad to see you going Phil, hope the new owner looks after it like you did, it was a stunning car.

I do like the little Meriva's, but I thought the previous one was pointless.

Good luck with the new motor, and don't be a stranger.

I like the new meriva also. Though I did get told off by a Vx sales man for openingly talking about suicide doors in front of other customers :-)

We get shot if we use the phrase "suicide doors"

Your colleague at Motorbodies in Luton said the same during the test drive. "We don't use the S-word" -I did, though
See here for piccies of the new model. I thought the handling was remarkably good on the test car -really shows that VX are allowing UK input to chassis design now. The electric handbrake will take some getting used to, after 32 years of yanking a big lever, but I'm sure we'll cope -and SWMBO, not normally the most adaptable driver, loved the car.

And thanks for the kind words!

    Phil

The missus has the new Meriva. Hers is 1.4T (140) version of the SE.

It's a great car with a commanding view all round. We use it more than the Insignia at weekends because it is so easy to park into the tiniest city space.

It's also full of storage areas including a double height boot which means that nothing is carried in the main part other than shopping etc.

Downsides are it has no spare wheel (hence the larger boot) and catastrophic traction control at the lights if the road is wet. You can turn it off though.

The electric parking brake is fine when you get used to it. Like my Insignia the software is definitely on the safe side - on hills - in that it refuses to move unless you give it a fair amount of Revs. More than I ever used with a manual parking brake.

How do the rear doors operate? I mean can you only open them if the front doors are open first?
