    Default Car Insurance

Our Car Hating Government are at it again!!!!

They are proposing that all vehicles must be insured all the time even if it is not being used I.e. SORN, in your private garage, on your private land laying in bits being restored etc. From their database if it is not shown insured you will get a letter telling you you have 1 month to insure or £100 fine. If you still fail to insure the vehicle will be seized and crushed.

Whilst we all agree every vehicle must be insured on the road this is just another cash cow I.e. 1.5 million vehicles not insured =£ 150 million quid.
This goes to government coffers not insurance to reduce premiums

So what happens with cars on dealers forecourts, car located at auction sites are these to all be crushed.

The great Cameron is now trying to squirm his way out of another election promise, that when world prices for fuel are high the fuel duty increase mechanism will be stopped or reduced to stop large increases. Will it my a****.

I personally think that this will never ever stand. Its just the government are damn greedy. How can it be that this is the case? - it would surely make 'sorn' redundant too. Some people have summer cars, some people have 2-3 project cars. This would surely be unfair if they did this, but it definatly wouldnt suprise me to be honest.

No its going to be the same as SORN with road tax, you will have to notify them that its uninsured, you wont have to have it insured if you notify them, if you dont they will fine you apparently.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-12150923

If anybody has a vehicle they're not going to use on the road, they can declare that off the road and that will be absolutely fine
TBH does seem like more paper work to me, and more cost to the tax payer, youd think a vehicle SORN for Road Tax could be cross checked against the insurance database, but I suppose anything that helps takes more uninsured cars/drivers off the road is a good thing.

This is just insane, more and more paperwork to fill in, total and utter bull poo! If its SORN, then why should we need to then advise of no insurance. Like other say, why not cross check.

They should spend more time trying to clamp down on those that are using their cars without relevant legal req's, instead of forcing rules on those who obey.

Being a law abiding citizen myself, it bugs me that if you are legit-you are forced to prove everything under the sun, but if you do wrong you get away with everything.

All these uninsured folk on the road probably dont have a proper address, proper licence, road legal car....but who foots the bill - THE HONEST AND GENUINE.

Yet we hear that they are going to reduce the amount of police officers too...probably to make way for another little office somewhere to file away SORN and Uninsured Vehicle paperwork.

The original media release was ambiguous in its detail, would seem some clarifications have been made.
But as the AA say there is still the drivers who know that by not registering change of ownership they do not get speeding tickets parking tickets etc. So if they are not registered to anyone I.e. the previous owner has sent off they have sold it but the new owner does not register it how does the magic database send them a letter?

I am all for getting uninsured scumbags off the road but, even with all the ANPR cameras they have not caught the 1.5 million uninsured drivers. Surely if like around there are ANPR cameras SD you enter each town with time etc they can see that certain vehicles are regularly going in and out of certain towns and set up police stings to catch them.
