Question 85watt bulbs? Is this the problem??

Hi there, recently fitted HID's to the motor, long story short, they wouldnt work, had to get cancellers, now they work!

So fitted 85watt FULL Beam, so that i could tell the difference when they were on, as the standard bulbs were cack!

BUT, now i have the bulb error light & the drivers side will not work ( well it does, but on and off?!)

IS this because the CANBUS system knows there 85watt and kind of shuts it down?!!

Any help is appreciated! thanks in advance guys.

Possibly. And running higher power bulbs like that you are risking doing damage to the wiring.

Its the current drawn through the wiring..

    @ 85w by 12v = 7A
    @ 55w by 12v = 4.5A

as you can see alot more... as the cable are usually only just large enough power the device and putting a larger cable in would cost more, times that by 000's of motors rolling of the production line.. £££

Also there is the heat issue, an 85w is going to give off more heat, if you have plastic headlights, fine if your driving but standstill for a lenth of time, this may have an impact.

    Just my thoughts anyway.

    The extra currect drawn.

That's why the lighting circuit in your house is 1mm or 1.5 mm, but the ring main is 2.5mm and the cooker 6mm.

Swap them over and check.. if its still out, then check you have 12v at the bulb, just to prove you havnt damaged the wiring.

Certainly take them out, as said above, it could damage your wiring and is illegal.
