CDTi's Thermostat options

Was just reading this thread and got me wondering about the cold running of the 150 cdti's - would a thermostat from another engine model (one which would allow warmer running) fit in the housing?

At the most, mine gets to 85oC and goes lower if going downhill's!! And I am sure the cold running affects the fuel economy.

Just a random thought.

The thermostat for the 150 cdti comes complete housing with temp-sensor an all in one unit.
Not sure if the actual thermostat-spring inside can be taken out at all and replaced.
But if so, a good idea!

As stats tend not to stick shut when they fail (just end up lethargic when opening) - you could fit an inline stat aswell, I know of a couple of other marques that do this with no issues - as diesels operate better at higher temps.
