Thermostat from a 1999-02 veccy onto a 2003-05 veccy?

Hi guys, another question.

The thermostat that I got was for the older 1999-2002 model veccy, and the housing was completely different to mine so we couldn't use it, however I took the actual thermostat out of the 1999-2002 housing and used that in my existing housing instead because it seemed to fit perfectly fine.

However, does anybody know if using a thermostat from the older model is okay? I just want to make sure that it's going to work how it's supposed to.

Reason why I ask is because after changing the thermostat, yeah the car appears to be heating up a little quicker... however on my little run to the petrol station and back, the car got up to 85c and never reached 90c... it's supposed to be on 90c as the operating temperature.

Also, my heaters are still pumping out warm air... they're no where near as hot as everybody else on the forum is saying that they should be. - everyone is saying that their heaters are so hot they can barely touch them after doing the thermostat, but mine are pefectly easy to touch and pretty warm instead of hot.

any ideas?

The thermostat will have the operating temperature stamped on it. (they normally do)

Sounds like it may have a different operating temperature.

ah crap, So i've possibly shoved an 85c thermostat in there which would explain why it never got to 90... GAH!

I'll have to source a 90c thermo from somewhere and do it all over again, lol.

85 is where they sit at when fully up to temp, this is perfectly normal. When I bought mine the list of VX the same thermostat covered was huge, including Vec B. Yours will be fine.

well I know my car will be fine, but the operating temp for my car is supposed to be 90c i'm sure of it.

Have you ever seen it run at 90?

This is a good question ....

I've never seen it get passed 75-80 before because it's had this problem since I got the car ;D lol!

I've done some research on the thermostats and all the models of different years say that the thermostats open at 92c. so the one I have in must be correct as there's no difference between thermostats of differing years :O

So how accurate do you think your gauge is? maybe take the stat out and put it in a pan of water, heat it until it opens and check the water temp.

that sounds like way too much hard work :P

I'm going to assume that my stat is fine, as it's definitely improved and the engine got to 85c after a drive around the corner, fairly quickly.

but still, I seem to only be having warm heaters, no where near super hot.. hmmm

Could be an air lock after you have changed the stat.
