Default 1.9cdti question about the turbo

Hi, in the picture below, the vacuum actuator encircled in blue controls the waste gate or the variable vanes on the turbo? I tend to think it controls the waste gate because when I disconnect it the turbo does not kick in, so I think the wastegate remains open with the hose disconnected.
If this is true what solenoid/actuator controls the variable vains ?

You are correct that it controls the wastegate as te other end of that pipe goes onto the wastegate on the turbo as for the vanes I am not sure how they are controlled some one will know

I don't think the turbo's on the 1.9 CDTI engines have variable vanes.
There is only one actuator connected, goes to the wastegate.

    TIS sais:
The Z 19 DT OHC diesel engine and the Z 19 DTH DOHC diesel engine are equipped with a turbocharger with variable inlet geometry (variable nozzle turbine) at the exhaust gas turbine. The charge pressure is adapted depending on the load and the engine speed by adjusting the plastic fins in the exhaust gas turbine. The plastic fins in the exhaust gas turbine are actuated using negative air pressure. The negative air pressure is controlled by a solenoid valve and forwarded to a vacuum unit to adjust the plastic fins of the exhaust gas turbine. The plastic fins are then adjusted by the vacuum unit control linkage.

The original thread was regarding the where abouts of the solenoid that controls the vanes. Not if the car actually had them.

Well, reading about the turbo in TIS it does say nothing about a wastegate, and after searching the forum I think there is no waste gate on this variable vane turbo. The role of the waste gate is played by the variable vanes in an open (sort of) position. Does this make sense?

And could the vacuum hose go to the variable vanes control and not the waste gate?
