newbie just bought an sri cdti!

hi all, ive been browsing on here for a few weeks now as ive been loking at buying a vectra after going out in my mates 04 cdti 150bhp version.

been out today and p/x'd my cmax against a very nice and clean 06 vectra sri cdti 150bhp version.

its very nice and has got the multichanger headunit and dab radio which is a bonus !!

one thing though, when test driving it it was gutless below 2000rpm, once above though it really flew.??

its covered 53000 miles and feels like new though.

any ideas what could be causing it to be gutless?

not sure how long its been stood at the garage mind so it could just be tight!!

Check the swirl bar is still on, if its off its a new inlet manifold. thats normally the cause of them being gutless below 2000 rpm. Its £100's to fix that too.

could be the swirl bar on the manifold or a dirty egr valve

Might sound daft but are you used to diesels? If you are used to petrol cars then it may seem slow below 2000rpm.

Other than that as mentioned inlet manifold, which is approx £600 at a dealers or cheaper independantly

well im used to having egr problems..... literally just had to replace the one in the cmax which without the correct tools is a dealer job that cost me just over £350 !!

can you explain the swirl bars thing to me please??

hi there , yep im used to diesels.... just p/x'd a 2.0tdci cmax that went quite well to be fair but was strating to cost me money!!

the cmax would pull well from say 1500 in most gears but the vectra wasnt interested below 2000rpm !!

i have a feeling it needs a good thrashing to try and loosen it up a bit !! it might of been on the forecourt for months.

i did notice that as the engine was getting warmer it started to get a bit better.

i will try the egr valve and boost sensor clean first .

Its a servo operated bar that moves some flap valves around in the inlet manifold to increase the combustion in the cylinders to improve low down power and torque.

Welcome matey, I am hedging on it being EGR related follow the how 2, clean and grease it and the performance should return once again.

However if it is the inlet / swirl issue you have my sympathy being such a new car to you.
