Default Anyone had any issues with the 2.2 and timing chain

Bit Of a long shot but one of the lads in work has an 08 plate 2.2 elite auto and the timing chain has failed due to no oil being fed to it to lubricate resulting in the chain going and damaging the engine . He is 2 months out of warranty and the car has only covered 48k . The repair bill stands at 2 grand but vxl said they would pay half after a few calls to customer services what i would like to know is has anyone else had a similar problem with the oil feed pipe failing so he can try and get vxl to pay more as its cost him a few quid in recovery charges etc i now this was a common fault on the vec B 2.2`s but i thought vxl had sorted this issue out .

    thanks in advance

    Andre

The issue with the direct is the Tensioner mate, although I believe it uses oil pressure to work. Your best bet is to speak to Benny, i'm sure you've heard of him on V-Sport. He's not on much but a PM to him or via the 2.2 forum should sort you out.

There have been quite a few chain/tensioner failure with the direct, but as said most come down to the Tensioner. The newer oil jet is huge, so its hard to see how that would get blocked unless your using poor quality oil filters as i've heard they can break down and block the jet.

08 Was near the very end of production for the vectra c,the 2.2 engines did suffer from camchain failure, but i thought it was only the early vectra c's and late vectra b's,and that there was a modified oil jet to replace the older type,so why has an 08 vectra c still got the old oil jet ? were vauxhall saving the updated ones for best

This is the old type jet on the left, all Vec C's should have the one on the right fitted, although some very very early C have been found with the small one.

thanks for the replies everyone so it seems there is still an issue with the 2.2 lump the more info i can get for him the better he can build a better case to get vxl to cough up . the car is currently in the dealers its been there for about a week and they have already started work on it i`m not sure how far they got with it i will get him to phone up on monday for a full breakdown all they have said to him is the chain has failed.

Its really strange as he drove to work as normal parked up and its only after the car being stood for 8 hours it would not start

One of the "big's" as in Big Dave or Big Steve had VX chip in. Not too sure for how much though. I'm sure he'll see this thread and give you his experience on the matter.
