Default Common Faults 1.9 CDTi (150)

Hi folks, my apologies if this has been answered several times before but I'm after some advice.

I've got a 2005 Vectra Estate with the 1.9 CDTi 150bhp engine. I've had it since it was about 8 months and it has covered 36k.

It's about to go in to have the Inlet Manifold replaced as the swirl valve connector rod has fallen off - obviously this is not a cheap job. Last month the plastic fuel filter housing needed replacing (again, quite a lot of cash for a bit of plastic).

The question is, what other "common" faults are there with the car? I don't want to be spending a fortune on repairs if in a couple of months something else expensive is likely to fail, I'd rather get it repaired and then swap it for something else. Or, is that the end of the big expensive repairs?

Any advice on likely trouble spots greatly received so I can "evaluate" it's continued presence in the Chappers' fleet!

Someone has posted a link elsewhere on here for a new manifold and gasket for £134. My friendly local (independent) garage has quoted me about £210 +vat for labour to fit it.

A lot better than the £1k + VX want to supply & fit it!

I'm aware that VX recommend that the EGR and actuator should be replaced at the same time, but I've also heard that people have not swapped the actuator and there have been no problems (I know that that is still working alright)

As for the EGR - my thoughts are that it can be cleaned out?

Yes I suppose it's worth trying to clean it out, my actuator is still working but should I replace it incase it fails in a few weeks/months also do you know where the link is to get the inlet for that price, cheapest I can find at the minute is about 165.00 off eBay, cheers
