Clutch pedal

So, yesterday in all the snow/ ice my clutch pedal decided to stick half way down it's lenght of travel. I live on a hill and was struggling to get up it. The TC/ESP was going wild (naturally) and was just wondering. Is there any other reason apart from the clutch being knackered that it would have done this? Ta

clutch return spring failed replacement is about £7 if i remember correctly its a different part but the peg to fit it to are already there as if they knew it was going to fail ;-)

Hmmmmm, well it's back at the top now working fine. seemed like it might have self adjusted itself?
