    Default Ratchet spanners

Would a set of metric ratchet spanners be worthwhile buying, or spend the money on torx spanners/sockets.

If you have a use for them, then defiently yes. Halfrauds have a good set, i'd wait for them to come on offer tho.

My other car. 1972 1641cc slammed beetle. On the road finally!!

It seems most of the bolts are torx on the car.

TBH i'm against using metric spanners on torx bolts, even if they do "fit"

As far as i'm concerned every tool has it's own job. Hex spanners/sockets for hex bolts and torx spanners/sockets for torx bolts.

It's like using a flat headed screwdriver on a positive drive screw, it fits but it's not right

Personally waste of time using them on a car. A socket set will suffice. Only time I use rachets is for work if I need to take 20 M6 bolts out to take a cover off to see what has blown up. Can not see what you would use them for on a car and as most have said a Torx kit would be of more use

I have the halfords set and must say its excellent! i admit there is not too much use for them on the vectra but they are sooo good. I have torx bits and sockets for the vec and ratchet spanners for everything else

I've seen a very good quality ratchet spanner set this morning, where you fit the torx or normal metric head into the end of the spanner. £60.

I asked questions about which tools to get when after some. Many recommended the Halfords pro sets which come with a lifetime warranty.

I bought he large socket set, and although i probably wont use many of the big ones, value for money the sets they sell are well worth it.

Never got used to ratchet spanners in all my 20+ years on the spanners it's just something you either work a certain way or you don't.

Now a gas axe and a mig welder & my trusty windy gun thats another tale.!!
