Default Automatic Diesel - Any Good?

Anyone own or driven an automatic diesel, if so what did you think, what mpg did you get? I have always heard Vauxhall automatics are dreadful and to be avoided, I have seen an auto 160 SE I like except for the fake wood trim but it is far to far away to go for a test drive.

Mine is auto, as was it's predecessor, an Omega, as wife and I both disabled. I think they're great. I've had no trouble with mine at all in a year, goes like stink and gives great mpg, around 40mpg locally and 50-60mpg on motorway

I've had mine 3 and half years and loved every minute, no problems at all.

I guess what you're saying is there are no VX stealers with an Insignia 160 auto in your locality?

You could always ring VX Customer services and get them to arrange a no obligation test drive?

Edit - I've just searched the Network Q site and Perrys of Barnsley have a used 160 auto.

I've driven the 160 Auto and thought it was absolutely terrible. Jerky gearbox, "refined" diesel engine. Not impressed.

I used to own an Insignia SE Auto 160. I thought it drove very well indeed. MPG according to Vauxhall was I think 42mpg average.

This is achievable if you don't hammer it, but in reality expect 36 - 38mpg as an average.

I never had any complaints about the Insignia Auto box and enjoyed driving it.

The offical figure is now 47 mpg from what I read but that might be wrong and to be honest if the real figure is below 40 mpg I would not be interested, also why the wood strip in the SE, very old fashioned?
