    Default oil change

does it matter or have any affect on your engine using different grades of oil when servicing. for example stealers are doing 2nd service 20k next week, but i also like to do an oil change in between services (6 month) so will it matter if i use a different grade of oil from what the dealers use. car an 08 cdti 150. also got quoted £300 for service but rang back and they quoted £240, i think that's good for a major service or am i wrong, ta all

unless you do millions of miles every 6 months or you do realy realy short miles its realy not worth changing the oil as it is long life fully synthetic oil that vauxhall use so will last a lot lot longer that oil used to a few years ago i do over 20 000 miles a year and only change mine once a year not because im too lazy or carnt afford it coz at trade at vauxhall its only £4 ish for a filter its because thats what the oil and the engine have been designed to do

the best thing you can do for a diesel car is change the oil vx recommend every 10k

the oil may have been designed to last 20k without oil changes but really the engine would prefer to have fresh oil every time you start it up!

0-40 is good if you use 0-40 just ask vx to use the same

Completely agree, IMO the best thing anyone can to do to prolong the life of an engine is to do regular oil and filter changes and ignore this 20k mullarkey. I only do 8k a year, and do oil and filter changes every 6 months.

i was only trying to help with the fuel, VAT and house bills ect ect going up i dont see the point in over servicing any car if it was a specialy modified thats pumping out stupid amount of BHP and it was raced every weekend than thats fair enough but only 4-5k a year whats the point in doing it every 2-2.5k miles????? when someone has already said that vauxhall say 10k surely they know best??
