    Default Problems!!

    Hi guys
Need a bit of help. I am offshore at the moment, when I phoned the wife last night, she had to go pick up my daughter from school in the afternoon as she was not well, when she went out to the car it was totally dead! After I got off the phone to her I phoned my mate and he went round and jump started it for her and said that he thinks the battery is knackered! Battery is only about a year old but obviously with the weather recently it could well be! Anyway after it had been running for a while she went out shut off the car and without thinking locked it up! So this morning she went out and couldnt get into the car as it had gone flat again. Even with the key it wont open which apparently is a common fault with them. She phoned the stealers and they were about as much use as a chocolate firegaurd! Phoned the AA but as I am not at home and it is in my name they said they couldnt help unless she joined herself at a cost of 195 quid!!! In the end she thought sod it and went and hired a car for a week as I wont be home til next Wednesday.
Anyway my question is how do I get into the car without breaking a window, there must be a way. Even if I can break the grill to get under the bonnet as I still have the original one in the shed which I can put on if need be!
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would look at the battery, and if it is proved to be at fault then replace with a good quality one IE bosch or something becasue the cheaper ones will fail in the cold weather.

before all that check for something draining the power such as interior/boot light stuck on or something...dodgy earth etc.

2nd check os the battery getting charge when running

Im afraid thats all the help Im able to give - also you should be able to manually open the car with the key.

The doors are not opening with the key. I thought that it would work even with the battery flat, from past experience on other cars it would only unlock the drivers door. Maybe the locks are siezed as I have never had to use them. The wife tried but she says it wont turn at all. Maybe will get her to give it a spray with WD and see!

Maybe try the boot and see if that will open?

Not sure how accessible underneath of these cars are but, you could try jacking it up and using a spare battery attach it to the positive connector on starter or alternator and the negative to any visible bolt/engine block, this should then provide enough power to at least unlock the car.

    Why thank you!

Previous planning on a de-locked door came up with this idea, as needed a way should all power be lost and there's no locks to put a key into! Although my plan was to have a connector tied up inside a wheel arch for ease of access.

    Reverting to the first thread..

The key should unlock the door (in the barrel), however the locks do seize up due to lack of use.
My 05 lock seized up a few years ago, but a quick spray of WD and a gentle rock of the key in the barrel will work it loose.
