    Default Power steering problem solved

Hi guys just an update on my steering problem, as said i drove through a carwash in my gsi the other day and once i stopped the car and re started i had no power steering but no warning light so a few members on here said too check fluid, fuses, disconnect battery and reset ecu etc i did so took all the connections off the pump and cleaned them with wd40/contact cleaner too no avail i then rang vauxhall and an independant garage who both said 100% failed pump at sill money(no fault code so was unsure how they could tell)so did a bit more digging and found a post about battery power in the winter/dark months being lower if u do short runs with lights/heater/heated screen on etc resulting in the steering system shutting down too protect the main ecu which makes sense but i was sceptical so i tested the battery which was holding charge etc but i took it off and gave it an hour on a battery charger at work today put it back on and hey presto i now have steering again now maybe it was a glitch but if anyone else is having similar problems(seems like a common issue) then i would advise trying a quick battery recharge as it worked out a cheap fix for what looked like a £500+ problem.
many thanks too the guys who gave advice also

Follow up to this sort of problem,

My 3.2 is fitted with LPG, a few times my power steering has been knocked out, and the LPG system went with it.

Car had been into Vauxhall for this, and the prats gave me all sorts of tales as to what they did to fix it.

When it happened again today I figured there had to be a common link. . .so, ****** Vauxhall, got my multi meter out, and it took me longer to get changed, and get car into garage, than it did to find the problem. . . . .so much for master technicians at Vauxhall.

I had a quick search to see if there was a common power supply, and indeed there was.

****** great fuseable link next to the battery. . . .terminal was dirty and slightly loose!!!!

So, anyone else have power steering problems, check the fuseable link & connections beside the battery boys!

Even with this scabby and loose, the car run fine, no warning lights or anything, just no power steering.

    Gaffer
