    Default insurance - leak

Had a bit of a leak.. well a lot of a leak in the garage that has caused quite a bit of damage.. insurance will cover the items I am claiming for.. however they are trying to make me accept vouchers for comet only.. the item we are claiming for is not even available there for the same make and spec.. my policy does not state vouchers.. anyone had any similar issues.. (churchill) and do I have to take them or fight my cause..

A friend had their house burgled, took car keys and used it to carry all the swag away in.
They got given vouchers, but more than enough to replace what they'd lost, so were happy.

Well the price they are offering for new for old will certainly not replace the freezer and tumble dryer. Comet don't even do a small hotpoint chest freezer, so hoe can they offer me a replacement cost for something they don't sell.. I don't want another brand as that's why I chose hotpoint in the first place as it wad a quality item

Find what you want online then email them the link and tell them thats what you want. If they can not supply the vouchers for that item tell them you will take cash.

They wanted links to all my items online.. spent 3hrs getting the closest matching products for them.. doing their job for them! Had to send them pics of the damage and all my items.. and they still can't get it right

I claimed for a lap top some time back, my 1st ever claim and just thought they would pay by cheque. so the next day went and bought a new laptop, paid on my credit card, thinking when the cheque comes i'll pay off my CC, they offered me a new laptop which to be fair was a better spec than what i had or a £600 DSG voucher (currys) neither much use to me as i had already bought new laptop, so waited till xmas sales and bought a lcd tv instead. That was with the post office.

Half sorted.. they will pay cash for the tumble dryer.. and a voucher still for comet for my freezer.. but quite a bit more.. although offered me nearly a £100 less for taking the cash.. mite as well take the voucher and maybe buy something else from there if I don't find what i'm after..

Hotpoint quality? 30 years ago maybe

Miele are undoubtedly the best quality domestic appliance manf these days followed by Bosch.

My Bro in law is a service engineer for ALL the big makes and covers NW england, he buys nothing but Miele/Bosch.

Think the price is what holds people back on the likes of Miele. My mum bought a new hoover the other day and I went with because she wanted the Vec for the boot. Looked at a Miele and it was well over a couple of hundred quid.

The reason you've been offered vouchers is so you have to go to a shop that sells the items you've claimed for.

    It's to stop fraud.

e.g. Have a decent freezer that's now too big for you. Have an "accident" and claim for a new freezer. You get a cheque, go out and buy a second hand smaller freezer and keep the difference.

Clearly not what the OP is doing, but it's to stop this happening.

They could at least supply a voucher for a shop that actually can get the item that's damaged.

Have you been to Comet and asked if they can get the items you want.
