Default how long should a Thermostat take to reach temp

Right im having abit of a problem with my 2.0DTI, the mpg have rapidly decreased, and i mean rapidly it just seems to be eating fuel. Posted some threads on here and everybody said about getting a service which i am on Saturday, but also somebody said that it would be my thermostat not working right. The thermostat sometimes stays on 0 and then other times it come of and is any where between 80/90. The Car heaters do only work on Level 4 but thats the resistor pack i think its called, but apart from that my heaters do get warm, it just takes around 10 minutes.

I had the car put on 2 difference computers at the garage and they said that my turbo and everything is fine, the only faults it found were something to do with a clutch switch and a glow plug not working. (the glow plug snapped).

Anyways he said that he qould supply and fit a new thermorstat for £30 so do you think i need this doing. Its not a bad price so dont mind paying it but then again if i dont need a new one then its pointless paying out.

    Thanks

Cant argue at that price tbh. Does seem to be an absurdly common fault across the whole Vec range.

It's only a common fault as a lot of the cars are now cheap and getting old. It's mainly but not only the older models.

Your description of it heating up sounds about right for a DTi tbh, they do take a while to heat up but if it makes you feel better then get the stat changed.

You mentioned in another thread you had a spanner light on, has this been investigated yet?

Yes had it on the computer im guessing it becuase of the glow plugs.

The computer only showed 2 faults the clutch switch and glow plugs.
