I popped down to our surgury at work this morning. Rang the bell the nurse Stuck her head out of the treatment room door and said She has an emergency, "oh" you are a first aider. Perhaps you can help. I have a patient with pains in "their" chest and pains down their arm. The ambulance is on it,s way, and she had notified Security. I said I would go and marshel/escort the Ambulance ( fast responce ambulance arrived first) to the "loading bay" ( we have a set procedure for things like this). I took the Ambulance to the goods inward (inside the factory). When something like this happens all "traffic" in the yard is not allowed to move ( no fork lift truck or lorries). Then a security guy took the Fast responce "para medic" to the surgury. I went back up to the main road to wait for the "big ambulance). Wearing my hi viz jacket, on the arrival of the ambulance I stood in the main road and halted Two lanes of traffic, then pointed the way for the ambulance to go down to the loading bay. Then went back to the surgury. The nurse asked me if I would escort the paramedics and the "patient" round the outside of the factory back to the ambulance. The patient seemed to be ok but best to be taken to the hospital for a good check up.
Our factory is very large, I was tired after all the running round I did. But all in a good cause. Glad I was in the right place at the right time and able to offer help, even if it was not first aid that I have been trained to do.
I suppose we are lucky to have a surgury a nurse and first aiders on site.
