Default Crazy Dash - Caused by SMD Mod!

After having my CIM replaced back in Jul last year (for the 3rd time), unitl now its been fine. Kman247 did the SMD conversion about a week later, but it has now started to dance and light up again exactly the same symptoms as all the times before.

Taken it to the dealers, they cant find a fault, but say its most likely to be the change of SMD's being the cause of the problem....

Give me strength! How can I tell them that i know of loads of people having done the same mod without the dancing dash, and that this is now the 4th time the same fault has occured with the exact same symptoms

Absolute rubbish mate , definately not the smd's. How can it have been the same 3 times before the smd's were changed?
It will more than likely be the abs ecu or the plug on the cim , get some wd40 and spray both connectors , bet it sorts it. I would hazard a guess that a pin on the plug for the cim is slightly bent and thats whats been wrong all along.

    Glad you pipped up Rich!

Funny you should make the comment about the plug on the CIM.. by sheer coincidence, if i give the top of the steering wheel a sharp tap when the problem occurs, the lights stop and dials come back alive! Only thing that does not work until i remove the key and restart is the Cruise control!

If i go ahead and clean the connector for the CIM, i take it that i wont get any permenant lights then appear having had it unplugged?

To be fair to the service manager who i have just been chatting to, he said the comment was made as they could have been a different voltage to the originals, and the comment about them causing the problem was just them mooting possible causes.

They said keep an eye on it, and if possible if it happens locally, bring it in with the fault happening there and then. Still got 7 months warrantee on the CIM in it now, and they said they can extend that if the need arises!

He is a fair guy, and has always been helpful, it just suprised me when the intital comment was made on the phone..

He did like the conversion though!

    Rgds
