Osram Nightbreaker PLUS (H7) - anyone used these, or what else??

Folks,

I need to replace my headlight bulbs as the standard ones I had to revert back to are plain and simply rubbish. No light and on motorways I cannot see past about 4 ft so im thinking about changing the bulbs.

I used to have the standard Osram Nightbreakers but these blew.

What would you recommend?
I want a nice bright light that will stretch a little further, not blue light either - MUST be white.

Do you think these PLUS bulbs will be anygood?

What else will give me a bright light?

I havent got the money for HIDs, so please avoid this.

I know you said avoid it, but the money you will have spent on your previous Nightbreakers and your potential new set you can buy a cheap set of HiDs off eBay that will be way better than any halogen bulb.

Can you not put up with your current ones and get some HiDs next money for example..?

TBH Dan, my current lights are terrible, on the motorway I literally can not see beyond 4ft and as the wife drives the car too with the little one in it, it doesnt give her much confidence.

Defo spend the little extra and get a HiD kit then. As its for your B, you don't need to worry about Canbus, but will need a H7R kit.

So a kit like this... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/H7R-H7-FULL-XE...item5190ca3f0b will do the job, you c an choose the colour you want (4300K being OEM, 6K being very slightly bluer, 8K a bit more blue again and so on).

They will be very easy to fit on a B as space isn't much of an issue.

The difference will be unreal and you really will wonder why you didn't do it before. I bought the exact same kit for the wifes Laguna for the exact reasons you list and they have been spot on - she wanted OEM 4300k colour.

i got the 6000k kit and the 8000k spare bulbs for 60 quid

Don't forget that the vectra b headlights don't have the glass lens in the dipped beam like the vectra c's do, so using hids could cause issues with the way the light is pattern is scattered and you can find that people will forever be flashing you. 4300k would be best however if you want a white light. Plus they'll be clamping down on aftermarket hid kits on the mot. There was a thread on here regarding new changes coming into effect, so bare that in mind.

How hard is the kit to fit and whats involved? Do I need to take the headlights out, alot of re-wiring?

Im quite happy to do a DIY on something like this but I dont have too much time to be messing about as im still doing up the house, so time really is of the essence.

ALSO, are these street legal and MOT legal?

Last thing I want is the wife getting pulled for lights.

No glare with the H7R kits at all. That MOT list has been outed on many forums as not being perfectly true anyway (more of a wish list), HiDs have always been a grey area, and will continue to be so. As long as the beam and colour are fine, there will be no issues.

They slot in between the existing wiring and the bulb, no wire cutting at all, can be done in about 45 mins no problem. IIRC from my Vec B the lights will not need to come out at all.
