Default Newbie with a few questions - 2.2i Direct SRI

    Hi all,

Just picked up a 2006 55 Vectra 2.2i Direct SRI on 87k with FSH, most receipts too which is nice! Deposit left collecting on the weekend.

Did a bit of research before hand, and am aware of the timing chain problems some people have, what with the jet getting clogged etc.

I presume as mine is a 2006 that the main problems are resolved, and that its just a case of keeping it well oiled? It was last done at 83k in march 2010, thinking about getting it done on collection for piece of mind, seeing as the reason for purchase is my piece of a renault snapped it's belt! Turned out it had a forged service history.

What grade of oil should i use? Will probable take it to VX anyway but just out of interest in case i decide to DIY.

Another thing - the gearbox is fine, but i test drove a lower mileage one and it was smoother. Should i change the gearbox oil and what oil do people go for?

One thing i think it's missing is xenon lights, needs it to keep it fresh. I have fitted them before on some previous cars which has ranged from being a piece of cake to a complete cut hand ball ache. What are they like to fit on the facelift ? Not sure if i need canbus compliant ones too?

Any help/advice on Vectra ownership greatly appreciated, will upload some better pictures soon but here it is: (p.s - Anybody know what the name of the colour is?)

First off Welcome to the vectra dude.
It looks a clean motor my friend. I also purchased a 2006 2.2 direct sri auto only 4 weeks ago. So far I love it lol, saying that its already been to the stealers for repair haha.
But it was a recall...... I would call your local dealership and quote them your vin number to see if you have a recall outstanding for your fuel pressure regulator, or you will be left out-standing in the cold when your car breaksdown like mine did. But as said I was lucky it was a recall that had not been done so cost nothing.

I had a interim service done at the same time (oil change/health check/update software) at a cost of £125 for piece of mind (and the stamp in service book lol)

Just out of interest what did you pay for it?

Again welcome to the site and welcome to the 2.2 direct haha
    Scotty

    Hi mate.

Yes you need specific HID's for the vec or they pop the bulb warnings, best place is Hids direct. Your direct engine doesn't suffer from the blocked oil jet, the failure point is the tensioner. VX state the chain system should last the life of the engine but its wise to change it before 100k. There is a new chain kit with a revised tensioner. The other failure point to the 2.2 direct is the HP pump on the rail, if its a Continental one then that again is the revised one and to my knowledge none have failed to date. Other than that the actual engine is pretty bullet proof.

Keep it well serviced at 10k intervals, not VX stated 20k with 5w30 full synthetic and you should be a happy man.

    And welcome to the club.

Cheers mate, will most definitely head to vauxhall as its only across the road and see if there are any recalls outstanding. A shade under 4k with 6mth tax and 12mth MOT. Literally immacualte inside and out so just prey its reliable to go with!

Yeah keep it well serviced lol
I plan on doing an oil change myself every 6 months then a full vx service every 20k miles. Also once my car hits the 50/60k mile mark I will replace the the chain and tensioner just for peace of mind.

How much are we talking for the chain and tensioner. At my current mileage will hit 100k in about a years time so would probably get it done then.

Just patiently waiting for payday so i can purchase a lighting upgrade for the front end

There are 2 chains, one for timing and one for the balancer shafts. The Balancer chain doesn't ever really need doing.

There might also be a recall on the handbrake, manual only though, they dreamed that it can fail on the auto as it has park.

The kit costs about £130, VX will charge about another £500 to fit. There are guys on the 2.2 forum who will supply and fit for half that though.

Yeah take a drive over and ask the question, get it done before it goes lol. Other than the problems mentioned above I believe the engine is bullet proof (fingers crossed).
You paid a good price it looks very clean, I paid 5k for mine, 39k miles FVSH, front/rear parking sensors, satNav, bury c9060. It was brought from uk but spend its life in germany, then came back to uk lol.
But in my opinion its a great car with plenty of grunt and reliable when recall faults done lol- makes me want to get the vxr though haha.
