Default Conviction for flashing head lights

Lots of motorists do it - not sure why but it's popular to do so.
anyway, grimsby police caught a motorist warning other motorists of speed camera by "flashing lights" and they fined the flashing driver £175 +250 costs & a £15 "victim surcharge"

I can understand why people do it. The police say speed camera's and hand held radars are in use to SAVE lives. But ultimately it turns out to be quite a big revenue raiser. There was a study that I read about (don't quote me on this) that no matter what the deterent, be it flashing of head lights to warn of a camera, or spotting the camera before it goes off, the motorist will slow down for the majority of their journey.

But yes, you won't get caught if you just stick to the speed limit and behave.

now the idea of a camera is to slow motorist down at a certain area so if they slow don for the camera it works . if someone warns them of it and they slow down it still works.

the police are just ****ed as its money out there budget.

And they say they try not to hide the vans.....

Every one round here is on a hidden bend or in an obscure position. not clearly visible...

There's usually one on my way to work, used to flash people but dont bother now as i never speed (on that road anyway) myself so sod it... My new trick is to do 40 in the right lane, and if some idiot comes up my back end flashing i move left at the last min. usually causes them to floor it at the wrong time lol

Hmm. I've had several conversations with my wife over flashing headlights "look, they're flashing you out" etc. I keep telling her there is no morse code for lights, the only recognised function is like beeping the horn, to let others know you're there.

The whole purpose of having a speed camera van there in the first place is apparently to act as a deterrent, and also for any drivers doing over the limit to be caught doing so,we're constantly told by the authorities that the cameras are NOT revenue raisers,if they are not then why prosecute someone for not actually committing a crime,at the point where they pas through the cameras beam..this makes me sick to the back of my stomach ,and if it happened to me..I SWEAR i would not pay any fine..again we the public are being taken for absolute mugs and it makes me sick to the core..Britain in 2011
a corrupt police state for sure.

He claimed he was flashing his headlights merely to try to warn motorists to prevent them braking dangerously when they saw the mobile speed trap.
LoL what a load of BS.......... We've all done this before, we know exactly why we do it. This guy got caught, don't see what all the fuss is about.

Oh and just to add.i see people driving whilst using a mobile phone every day, which is far more dangerous than someone warning a motorist of speed guns, again police you have you priorities wrong..its £60 quid fine is it not for the above offence,so the amount the guys been fined is disproportionate in any case,or are the police skint on south Humberside.
