Default DVD 500 DVD 800 dear god help me!

    Hello!

Ok im getting so frustrated im going to simply bullet point the situation.

    Buy Elite Insignia with DVD800

sales man "yes you can connect I phone via USB and controls from steering wheel"

DVD800 Manual yes you can connect I phone via USB and controls from steering wheel"

I try this, it says, "Not compatible" yet still allows me to charge the phone....... Grrr

Go to VX dealer and speak with tech.
"no, it is not compatible, printing error and salesman misinformed!"

So, i simply connect via the AUX (BUT AS IM SURE YOUR AWARE THIS DOES NOT CHARGE THE IPHONE AND ALSO DOES NOT HAVE THE STERRING WHEEL FUNCTIONALITY)

I continue through my unassuming dull life..............

So anyhoos, after that daft cow reversed into the front of my car it goes away for repair. I get Sig Sri with DVD 500 as these are now the standard NAV kits fitted.

I think ay up my phone needs charging so connect to the USB port
    AND GUESS WHAT

    PING
the ipod thing appears on the dash and I have full control of my Iphone.

So when I got my car back I spoke to 2 different VX dealers, one says,
"na 800 is older unit hence its no worky"

    the other says,
"this is probably a fault but we would need to have YOUR PHONE and CAR for a few days to test it"

    ?????????????????????????????????

Please, dear god, someone help me. Is this a fault or did the DVD800 never connect to the iphone using USB

(goes and has a lie down with cold flannel pressed against fore head feeling slightly faint)

pardon? ......................... There is a software update?

I have just been on the phone to Hans at the Russellheim Factory which was amusing!
My standard grade German and his minimal English, We kept saying
    "Ich habe nicht verstanden!!!"

So there is a software update been made available?

I could'nt tell you specifically as i dont have access to that info BUT updates are made all the time and the head units are often subject to software updates. If you phone vauxhall customer services they may be able to tell you if there is any updates for your DVD800 if you explain the problem to them, its worth a try.

Yes this is updated approx every 6 months... to allow compatibility with new phones that come onto the market.

Your Insignia has to be programmed via TisWeb... which is painfully slow, and so many dealers will simply not update...
I understand that a simple Diagnostic, that takes approx 3 to 5 mins via Tech 2 or Op-Com (on older vehicles).... will take 20 mins via TisWeb on the Insignia and Astra-J.

So in answer to your question,
Yes, there will be a 2010 firmware update for your unit..

or alternatively you can take the matter up with the dealership that sold you the vehicle as under the trade descriptions act you have been mislead into buying a product that appears to have been misrepresented or poorly/falsely advertised/described by the salesman and see if they want to retrofit the correct head unit or replace the car

Had a quick google mate and it seams the Bosch DVD 800 is a bit hit and miss as you say. THIS may give you some help, even if you have to go direct to Bosch, as it seams all units can do everything, its just GM chooses what to switch on.
