Grinding on steering left and right

Hi people!can anyone help?well basically drove my 2005 cdti veccy Sri 150 on a 100 mile alround trip today and something really out the blue happened!as I went to park up for the night whe turning the wheel the steering rack sounds like there's sand or stones in there instead of power steering fluid.also I know the brake discs are badly corroded but would this make a grinding noise when turn the steering wheel?the noise comes through on left and right turning but worse when I turn the wheel to the left.the noise has never ever been there at all.I just want to apologise to the long essay but it's doing my head in!!!once again thank you in advance!daz

low fluid level makes a grinding noise and twitchy wheel?

I also forgot to mention that when I've got my lights on and turn the steering wheel the headlights go dim when I'm turnngbthe wheel and the grinding noise is happening.

Is the power steering fluid in the same reservoir as the brack and clutch fluid on veccy's?

no because if you turned your steering wheel the brakes would come on lol
i think the reservoir is tucked down the back some where?

Most cars with power steering will make the lights dim a little.

Still no further forward though because warning light does not come on on the dash so it can't be that can it????
