Default 3.2 V6 Economy Figures Please?

    Hi all,

I bought my Vectra GSi before Christmas and would like some 3.2 owners to come forward with their economy figures so that I can see if I have a problem?

I have owned many V6 powered cars over the years and this one seems to not be doing so well. Admittedly, the Vectra C is heavier than my older cars, and the 3.2 is the largest V6 in the family, compared to my 2.5 and 3.0 powered motors. I am, however a bit disappointed by getting 35 MPG at 70 MPH with cruise control on. Don't get me wrong I did not buy the GSi for economy, but this does seem a tad on the low side for a more modern car. My old knackered calibra v6 gave me 38 MPG!

I changed the oil for Silkolene Fully Synthetic 5W-40 and put new Bosch Super 4 Spark Plugs in and no difference, which different to what happened when I did the same to all my old cars.

Do you guys and girls think I may have a problem? Is there a better choice of sparkplug for the 3.2? Are the DIS packs shot? I don't have a mis-fire and there are no fault codes. Are there any sensors that could be contributing to this?

Lastly, I have put this in the discussion section not the technical because I am not really sure if this is a problem until I can compare other peoples economy figures.

Driving at 60 only makes the economy worse!

    Many Thanks

    Simon

35mpg sounds about right. I used to get 28 round town and 36mpg over 150 miles of motorway @ 70mph and that was with an auto box.

There's another thread kicking around somewhere about the economy of the 3.2 V6.

Hey mate, my gsi averaged 22mpg on mixed driving and I always got 280 miles to a full tank. Never really done much motorway driving to get motorway figures sorry.

I get about 25mpg around town and 33mpg on a run. Mostly I drive around town.

35mpg does sound ok. I find reseting the computer before a long run helps raise the average consumption, then it doesn't take into account the mid to high 20's you get in town.

Highest I've ever got is 40mpg. This did involve driving at 55mph for a few hundred miles.

At this time of year that sounds pretty reasonable. As a general guide I look to be getting at least 450miles from a full tank.

If you're wanting better figures, wait till the air temp is 20c (SI standard temp). Coolant, engine and gearbox oils should all come up to temp faster meaning your mpg will rise faster.

My last tank was showing at 34.8 MPG and I achieved 390 miles to the point where it tells you the range is zero and the gauge was pointing actually at nothing. I will continue to monitor it as the weather gets better, thats useful info thank you

There's nothing wrong with your car, those figures sound about right. Some people never see above 30mpg in the 3.2's (obviously driving style). I could achieve 36.6mpg going to scotland (240miles) in my V6 Elite Auto WITHOUT using cruise control, And found it to be less when using cruise cont.

Dont forget you have 700cc over a calibra V6 and alot more weight!
