bangty/numpty Its only the dti's (well at least on the b's not sure of dti's on the c) which have the torx screw in the middle... The CDTi's are a screw top tightened up to 20nm or so apparently but my ass are they.. They are frigging tight... Towel wrapped around it and then in the vice and then 5holes/waterpump pliers to undo the lock ring...

tryed that but waterpump pliers seemed to slip, when put the stilsons on would not budge, was tempted to jump on then, put that would probaly end up with a trip to the local vx stealers to give them yet again more of my hard earned cash, theres bound to be another way to do this, how do vx themselves get them opened?

Heat the filter housing up. I think they're metal and obviously, metal contracts in the cold... as I discovered the other night when I tried to change the batteries in my torch after it had been in the boot of the car for a week. Could I get it off when it was cold? Not a hope in hell.
