Thread: Spanner through Car warning light - 2.0DTi

    Exclamation Spanner through Car warning light - 2.0DTi

    At 0730 on Xmas Eve, I set off as normal for my 8 mile drive to work - no problems, on the return leg at 1600 the car was cold the above light came on after the car started and then went out after 3-5seconds.

    On the 3 or 4 occaisions when I used my car again over the festive period this has happened again but only when the car is cold, never when warm

    The hand book dosn't cover this and I am wondering if it's the glow plugs (car now 6yrs old with 63k), the car drives and performs as the previous 6yrs.

    Any help or guidance is greatly appreciated.

    Does sound like glow plugs,

    Do you have access to a code reader or do the peddle test?

    Follow this link to carry out pedal test. Will be interested in knowing if it works for you. It didn't work on my 2.0 DTi.

    The pedal test doesn't work on the DTi engines as far as I know. Doesn't work on my 2.2 anyway. I'd start with the glowplugs before anything else.

    Agreed - I used to have an Astra 2.0 DTI. This is exactly how it behaved when a glow plug failed.

    One word of warning, the glow plugs can seize in place on the DTI. If they don't come out easily then don't try to force them as they WILL snap. Plenty of patience and Plus-Gas is required. Spray plusgas around the thread, wait a few minutes, try unscrewing the plug until it becomes tight, spray plusgas again and screw back in. Keep repeating this exercise - it will unscrew a little further each time until eventually you will have removed it.

    have the same problem on my sri cdti 150 and the code reader shows no codes but will clear the spanner, have also been told it the glow plugs

    had a full diagnostics run on the car and was told that the EGR valve needed relacing as well as 4 new glow plugs, have fitted the EGR valve but car still going into limp mode, havent changed the glow plugs yet but would the fact that i have faulty glow plugs mean that the car would go into limp mode?

    If you mean its going into limp mode and staying like that, then the answer to your question about the glow plugs is no it wont put the car into limp mode.
