Default Oil Change - GM 10W40 any good

    Bit of advice please

    2004 SRI 1.8 52000 miles

    I was recommended by dealer
    GENUINE VAUXHALL SEMI-SYN 10W40 ENGINE OIL ACEA A3 5LTR

    £30

Is this a good value combination for the money.

I see other people suggesting 5W40 oils on the forum.

Should I spend the £30 on a different brand?

    Any advice welcome

Since your car is a non-VVT 1.8 it will do just fine with the 10w40 oil Go for it

IIRC, Asda do a 10W-40 semi syn with the same spec for about £15.

the GM oil is very good but when I first got my 1.8 at 50,000 miles I put the semi 10-40 in, not as smooth as before using a bit more petrol, so I used mobil fully synth 5- 30, very very good, at the next oil change used COMMA fully synth again very good (and cheap) but for my last oil change I have used GM 5w-30 dexos2 fuel Economy long life fully synth, my dealer sells it for 23quid as a kit, you get the oil/filter/ and sump plug rubber seal for under £23.00 a bargain, the car seems to run better than ever, starts easy in the cold weather is smooth to drive and gives a very goos MPG, so yes,,,its fully synth for my little baby,

PS go to another dealer as 30 quid for semi synth 10-40 is a rip off.
just noticed your location,, my dealer is in newcastle-under-lyme, its worth a trip.

Yes I was thinking that as well - may well try the Stoke Dealer?

Clomp - which dealer did you use - I notice you are only down the road from me.

Edit - sorry just noticed the Newcastle dealer you used - Is that Greenhous?

For Free - Fantastic - but I will certainly pay you for it.

I was rather hoping to do the change today as its bank holiday.

Well TBH I was also fitting a new shower tray as well today but I think the oil has priority while weather is milder.

Would it be possible to collect the oil today? If so place/time?

Sorry just realised you were offering semi-synth - however after reading your comments and the price at Newcastle Vx I will probably go for the GM 5w-30 dexos2 deal

    EDIT:
Think we just posted at same time ! Thanks for the offer - it was very kind of you
