I found this comment at astraownersclub: "just seen your post and i bought one of these the other day for my new astra, 2 hours into having it on my car it used £20 worth of fuel and my engine managment light came on and is still on after unpluging it , if you ask me stay away "

Go for a OBD remap and a safe remap.

From looking at there website which does'nt look very proffesional, all the advertised performance gains are exactly the same for every car they list which doesnt make sense. Also it seems to be a one box fits every car in the world set up, personally the closest it would get to my car is in the boot lol.

The temptation with adjustable boxes is to turn them up to the top setting immediately and then put the boot down from cold just to see if they are working, which invariably ends up with the MIL light coming on.

I've got a Drakebox 2 on my 1.9JTD Alfa Romeo GT and it works a treat, but it is absolutely vital to set it (and any of these boxes) up by the instructions - which in the case of the Drake box means starting at map 5 with the engine fully warmed up and (I quote) 'test the engine on an uphill road with a fast acceleration in 3rd gear until 4500 RPM'. If this is fine with no overfuelling cut-out (ie. the MIL coming on) then try map 6 and so on.

The 'acquired wisdom' is to say all these boxes are crap and to get a remap instead (usually from people who are just repeating what they read on forums and have tried neither). This generalisation fails to take into account that (a) some very expensive and prestigious tuners use these plug in boxes and (b) a bad remap is just as bad if not worse than a badly set-up box.

PS. Mine works fine on setting 6 - any higher and keen acceleration puts me in the 'sin bin' for 24 hours while I wait for the MIL warning to clear itself....

I've had both a tuning box and remap and I can say that remap wins overte box even if my map is not good but getting fixed a week tomorow so that's ok even with my current map it's way smoother than a box no black soot etc etc and kinder to engine as
Timing and boost is adjusted instead of just over fuelling

My opinion but k would never get a box again I will always go for a map
