Alec, (username "the fisherman") did one recently and also changed it from pre-face to full facelift IIRC, ask him he has a load of experience on this.
As long as it's done properly it shouldn't be a problem.
I'm sure though before it goes back on the road it has to be inspected plus when you come to sell you would have to tell people that it was a cat d write off.
i put a Cat C R reg citreon xsara back on the road, paid £50 for the car, scrap yard parts cost me £100 in the right colour out of pure luck, £50 for VIC check, and £50 for new MOT as old one had expired, market value of a car of the mileage was around £600, all new parts it needed would of cost around £1500 from a bodyshop hence being written off, it needed 2 new headlights (£5 each from scrappy) 2 wings (£15 each) 2 indicators (£5 each) new bumper (£20) and a new radiator (£30) took me a bout 2 days of my time, with the help of a friend!
I then ran the car for 18 months without problem before the cambelt snapped, which 18 months out of a car that effectively cost me £250 i cant complain, the MOT 12 months after i put it back on the road it failed on 1 tyre
Cat D doesnt even need a VIC check does it?
Cat D does not need any inspection (VIC) before it can be put back on the road (it's only C that needs an inspection) and there is no law that stipulates that you have to tell the buyer (except the buyer asks specifically) that it's a cat D before selling off. It's up to the seller to inform the buyer that its cat D if the buyer does not ask.
Doesnt it state on the logbook now if its on the HPI register?
only Cat C say on logbook
