    Default Tailgate problems on signum

The electric Tailgate on my signum elite as stopped working. I noticed this after washing it the other day - it would not open. The symptoms are
    1. When I unlock the car using the remote fob, you can hear the mechanism unlocking the tailgate, but when you try and press the button on the tailgate to release it, nothing happens.
    2. When you open( and sometimes close) one of the doors on the car, it releases the tailgate latch so its partially open. However if you the try and lift the tailgate, it lifts a fraction but wont open it becuase the latch is still on - if you press the button on the tailgate nothing happens. It shows as open on the dashboard and I have to push it firmly down to close it again

All seems very weird...anyone got any ideas? Might it be something as simple as a blown fuse?
    Thanks,
    Decho

I've JUST had this problem on mine!

Inside the rubber cover is a metal plate which is pushed up onto a switch which activates the electronic mechanism. There is a little ball bearing which I don't know what it does, but it gets stuck and holds the plate up against the switch causing the problems you describe.

To resolve, pull the rubber boot off the switch and you should be able to use a key to pull the plate down. Spray lots of WD40 into the bearing and push it in a few times. Now test by trying to use it as normal (minus the rubber boot). At first it made no difference on mine so I left it a couple of days which let the WD40 work and now it works as it should.

The only problem I've got now is figuring out how to get the rubber boot back into place!

Had this problem too... very embarrassing when you want to get into the boot and it doesnt do anything. I found it sometimes doesnt lock properly. Press down on the boot as you press the button as if you were trying to spring it open lol. It knocks whatever gets stuck into position so that the electric motor will activate

Not had a problem since this... oh and although the number plate makes that horrible rattle... make sure you give the boot a bit of a slam. I found its when your a bit too gentle Hope that helps

You'll have to either remove the trim on the inside of the bootlid so that you can unbolt the handle mechanism, or cut off the wrapover edges of the rubber boot and silicone it into place from the outside.

BTW, a revised boot handle mechanism is available that doesn't have the ball bearing in it.

That's cheaer than I was expecting!

Do you have a part number?

If I've got to remove it to reseat the rubber boot, may as well just replace it with a newer unit!

Brilliant, and this will fit the pre-face models as well?

(assume they are the same rear)
