Default Has anyone ever replaced a caliper bleed nipple?

    Hi all,

Has anyone ever replaced a caliper bleed nipple?

My Vec-C is due a fluid change and one of the nipples is pretty rounded, so I'm thinking now's the time to bite the bullet and get it replaced, so if anyone can share thier experiences...???...

Well I swapped some from one set of calipers to another, whats the question, how to remove a rounded off one? Firstly try a bit of heat and molegrips, if that doesn't work you can take the caliper off then lock the nipple in a vice and rock it backwards and forwards to loosen it up.. You can always try stud extractors but they are better at gripping larger diameters. Lastly take the caliper to a garage, they will probably remove it for a tenner. Its down to theirs and your determination in the end. You can pick up a secondhand caliper for peanuts thesedays if it becomes to much of a pita.

VX should sell spare bleed nipples..

What gets me is the quality of the bleed nipples. They are like butter!!!

I don't expect titanium but ffs, I could almost round one off with my fingers!

Still waiting to do my brake upgrade but have all stainless bleed nipples and banjo bolts to go on so should avoid some of the issues of becoming seized, they are pretty cheap too HTH

    Hi Lizard,

Where did you get the stainless nipples from? ...or did they come with the caliper?

Heres a tip for you when trying to remove dodgy looking bleed nipples, fill the kettle full, boil it then slowly pour the boiling water over the bleed nipple and then see how easy it comes out.
Brake fluid change is on the cards for me as soon as the better weather makes an appearance. I will defiantly change the nipples too. Are these available from the dealers or does anyone know the size that is required?
