    Default replace coolant tank.

Hi all, my 06 vec sri has the coolant warning light on the dash even though it's topped up ok. I think i'll have to replace the coolant tank as the sensor must be faulty as there's something floating around in there, where's the best place and price? stealers?
Also how much coolant will i need when i drain the system? 2ltr enough?
    thanks.

If its jsut the header tank your changing why not just look at getting a sensor and sealing washer/grommet for it? Even if you decided to change the whole lot you'll just need to replace what you've lost out of the header tank

Thanks plasma but i think i'll have to replace the header tank as the float thingy inside the tank is just floating around the surface, broken off i think.

I changed mine not long ago as it was leaking. Easy job, drain 2 litres via the tap on the radiator or fully drain and flush the engine and rad if your filling with new coolant. Disconnect sensor wire then the two small pipes taking note of which pipe goes where. I found it easier to leave the larger bottom pipe untill the tank is released from its mount to get better access to the clip. To remove the tank just push/lift it towards the windscreen untill locking tabs disengage then lift it out of its mount. You can now remove the bottom pipe easily. Refit is reverse.
The cooling system capacity is 5.5 litres on the 1.8 and 7 - 8 litres on all other engines. I used the Vaux longlife orange stuff (£4 /1 litre, £16 /5 litres at the dealers), at a 50/50 mix with tap water it protects down to -38*c
