It's only a guess,but i'd say a sticky egr valve
What engine is it by the way ?
2.2 petrol on 54 plate 110,000 miles well loked after at vx
It wouldn't hurt to get it plugged in to find out what the code is,that way you will know the fault.
Perhaps someone close to you from the forum could do that for you
shame your not local to me mate - would have stuck it on Vaux-Com for ya and diagnosed it..

got someone coming out tomoz to plug in a tech2,he thinks maybe something and nothing cos it has been stood in minus 10 for days will let you know tomoz many thanks to you all rick
