    Exclamation Vectra 2.2 cam chain!

    Hi
I have a vectra 07 sri auto and have been told that the timing chain has snapped. It is only 3yrs and 5mths old and has done only 37000 miles!
Surely this is not acceptable and vauxhall should repair for free. Anyone heard of this before?

    Cheers
    Paul

what is the advised life of the chain, the warranty is irrelevant for things with reccommended change intervals,
i.e. Cam belt is 100000 miles/ 10 years, so if it went at 50000 miles at 5 years old, it has not lasted as intended and therefore under consumer law vx would be liable, even if warranty has expired

no actual change interval on the chain officially as they are 'supposed' to last the lift of the engine. In reality they will be safe for 40 - 60k... before they start to stretch..

Good luck with VX!! Been there - done that with a car thats 3.5 years old and only 34k and they wanted nothing to do with it.. That was a few years ago mind so things may have changed,

You need to really try, as when these chains go - they do a lot of internal damage!

Thanks everyone on my way to vx now to see what they say.
Have been quoted by a garage to do the job for maximum £600 odd (worst case) thats with the head off and any valves that need replacing. £150 if just chain replacement.
Hopefully vx will put there hands up but i doubt that!

hi mate i have the same car as you 06 plate and my chain jumped a few teeth in febuary this year at 50k miles vauxhall wanted nothing to do with it as it was out of warranty. you will need the timing chain and balancing chain they cost me just over £250 from vx with trade price then it cost another £410 for labour e.t.c at a local garage and mine had just jumped i think there is a lot more work involved with yours as its snapped so the £600 the garage quoted you is a cracking price good luck with vauxhall and let me know what they say

    Hi Mate

Unfortunately this has been done to death, apparently Vaux do not recognise the problem, well that was the case a few yrs ago as same happened to a mates Car, Snapped at 35000 miles, after contacting Head office and proving he had all oil changes done at regular intervals the paid 75 percent of repairs.
Something to do with the oil nozzel feeder being too small and starving the chain causing it to snap, the New Kit has a bigger Nozzel thus rectifying fault.
    Go on to WWW.Z22SE.CO.UK
Loads of heads on there who had similar problem, Thread dedicated specially to it.
Best of luck, hope you get it sorted
