    Default Anyone know what's involved?

I booked my car in for a service and MOT at the stealers today. (Please don't hate me. I got a deal from them £200 for 2 services, 2 MOT & 2 Vehicle check.) They offered me an engine flush for about 35 quid. Apparently this 'totally cleans the entire engine'. 35 quid seems like an amazing deal for that. Do you think it really does that? I think not. Does anyone know what exactly they do for that measly sum? Boost sensor, EGR?

DON'T do the engine flush. I can't fathom why dealers seem so keen on offering this (except maybe to create more custom for themselves when the engine packs up). All it's supposed to clean is the oil ways inside the engine, so it has no effect on boost sensors or EGR valve etc. The problem with it is that it's only suitable for engines where the flush has been used during all the oil changes that the car has ever had. If the engine has never been flushed before and the mileage is now 35k+ then it's too late to start using it, and it can do much more harm than good. Lumps of old oil will have built up inside the engine and these are harmless if they're left where they are. The flush will dislodge them and cause the oil ways to get blocked.

Those that know engines inside out say that if you've never used a flush before, then it should only be used on an engine that has terminal problems already and the flush is used as the last resort before consigning the engine to the scrapheap.

Cheers Jez, i thought as much. That's why we call them stealers! Wasn't really interested in it, just wondered what they were gonna do with my 30 quid. Pi$$ it up the wall it would seem
