Default Help with New Car DVD Player

    Hi Everyone,

Just received my new car dvd player but having trouble wiring it in.
It connects directly to the original factory iso block, and works fine, except it only works with the ignition/engine on, and not all the button backlights on the player are lit up, just the SRC button and the Disc slot.

I like to be able to use this without the igntion on and all the button backlight lits up normal and also be able to use the DVD mode while the vehicle is moving, not just stationary.

On the second photo it shows the wiring and there are three wire, 2 Blue (Ant C, Brake) 1 Orange (Amp C). I understand what the Orange Amp wire is, but what are the brake and Ant c wire do.

    Thanks.

Yup sounds like constant 12 volt and switched 12 volt need swapping. Normally the wires are red and yellow and looking at the wiring diagrams, I'd say that is pins 9 and 10 on the power supply cable.

Regarding the other two wires, ant-c will be the control wire to conect to a relay if you have a powered extending aerial. You can ignore this wire on the Vectra. Brake normally connects to the handbrake to stop the DVD player playing a DVD with the car in motion.

You can connect the Brake to the earth with also, or ground it tothe cage , but for safety reasons and so your not watching tweenies when your driving it should be connected to the handbrake

I have swapped Wire 9 & 10 (Red & Yellow) but the problem is still the same, still need to turn ignition on, since it made no difference i swapped it back to how it was, but what i have noticed is, i turn the ignition on which turns on the dvd player, then i turn off the ignition but with the key still left in, the dvd player still stays on, until i actually pull the key out.

The backlight for the other buttons still not lighting up, having said that it lit up once for about 1 sec then gone off again.

    Any other suggestions?

Swap the power leads around and fit the ignition live to the ciggi lighter as there is no ignition live in the Vec stereo loom. To have the stereo fully working all the time whether the keys are in or out you need to join both power wires together and join them to the cars HU constant live. To test join both power wires and just put them direct to the cars battery. If that works then the stereo is fine, if it doesn't check the earth.

Thanks, that seemed to have worked, the only problem i have found, after the player is turned off the SRC button and disc slot light is still illuminated, but i have found a solution around it is to place a toggle switch between the constant live and the acc wire/ignition wire (red wire), that will cut out the power completely just the same as turning the igntion off.

Now the last bit to sort out is how to get the button backlight to illuminate, the SRC and Disc slot light are fine, just the others not lighting up, it did light up once and gone off, when it did light up it was a different colour (White) unlike the SRC button which is red.

Finally got it sorted, it appears the other button backlight only comes on when you open the doors or turn the headlights on, strange why on earth would they design it like that. I have no idea.
