    Default 3.2 auto

We bought a v6 vectra auto and after coming on here found out about the troubles of this box and the fix to stop the coolant getting into the gear box.

I emailed vauxhall who didnt reply, and then today got in contact with my local stealers who have told me that the work outlined in the customer satisfaction program has not been done and as the program is now closed vauxhall wont pay for it. Ive asked them for a quote for the work.

Must admit were a bit gutted by this situation its a brilliant car but I fear we are now looking at a big bill allready

Does anyone know how much this work should cost is there any point in trying to get vauxhall to help?

    Thanks folks!

Sorry to read this. Its a shame they don't do this sort of thing during a service, but them I guess not all cars go through the service program in the main dealers.

Is there anyway they will contribute to the work? lets face it they know its a problem and it was once being done free of charge!

Not all fail so you may be lucky anyway, but as the cost of a new box is about £2k its well worth getting it done for peace of mind imo.

Basically its just a bit jerky not quite as smooth as it should be, seen the problems mentioned on here and thought best get it checked to see if its been done.

Just waiting to see what the stealers say if its not to much will just get it done without fighting vauxhall. hopefully its ok, Its only got just over 50k on the clock but it needs its cambelt done as well which we had budgeted for but dont want to shell out all that on a lemon lol

If you have to do the work yourself then it's not too big a job.

You have to fit a seperate oil cooler in front of the radiator (mine is about 16 inches wide and 10 inches tall and there's plently of room to fit this). You can secure it to the inside of the front bumper.

You then have to fit two new lengths of hose (about 1.2m in length each depending on where the oil cooler is fitted) from the autobox to the new oil cooler (it's 10mm hose from memory), and refill the autobox with new fliud (get about 5 litres to be safe as you have to fill the new oil cooler as well). The 2 hoses easily pull off the autobox and the 2 old hoses at the radiator end can be cut away / discarded.

It's quite a straight forward job and if you're competant with DIY mechanics it should take a max of 2 hours.

In my view, for the cost and time effort it's a job well worth doing just for the piece of mind! HTH

That's cheap for a dealer - what work are they actually doing for that price?

    Hi
According to the dealer its all the work that is outlined in the customer satisfaction program fix. We may be getting another caravan soon so I may fit a separate cooler like mentioned for towing.

Get it done soon - the cost of fixing it after the problem has occurred is a LOT more.

I think it's a radiator seal that will need to be changed, it separates the ATF from the coolant. Renew the ATF in the process, price is good.
