    Default PC Help please

I've had a problem with my PC and had to replace the soundcard.
Put it in this morning and tried to load the drivers with no success.
Couldn't figure out why until I realised that my DVD drives have disappeared.
I tried system restore to be confronted by the message "system restore is unable to protect your computer".
Ok, how do I get the PC to recognise the DVD recorder and player? I don't have driver discs for them as they came built into the box.
I should add at this point that it needs to be as simple as possible due to my limited computer abilities!

I take it you mean your pc Dvd and not one thats connected externally?
If so find the make and model number of your dvd.
Then take it along to somewhere like......
http://www.driversplanet.com/ or the homepage of the manufacturer would be best.
Save and install when found. then reboot your computer.
And hopefully Voila!! Your system should find your DVD no probs.

What version of Windows are you running? Have you tried taking the sound card back out, to see if it makes any difference?

I'm running Windows XP (Genuine!). I guess I'll have to take the PC apart to find out what make the DVD's are.
    Wish me luck!

Look at the obvious things first as it often is one of them, check you haven`t loosened the ide cable at either the disk side or the motherboard side when working with the soundcard, also the power cables to these ? I wouldn`t think that you need drivers, they should get recognised by windows. When you boot up do they appear on the post screen, all the details that flash up,

Before you pick up the screwdriver, right-click on "my computer", select "manage" and go into "device manager". Then take a look to see what's listed there. If the DVD drive is missing, you've knocked a cable off or something.

My first port of call would be to check the IDE cables and power as Tommy has said.

Then remove the soundcard and see what happens.

How old is the PC mate? You won't need drivers for any ROM drives using Windows XP.
