    Default Advice please folks!

Spent £300 getting the DPF sorted and re-mapped. It needs disks and pads... £200? and i though i'd snapped a spring, but i've been under the car tonight and it looks like the drive bit of the altentor housing has sheared off, knocking around in the bottom of the engine bay! Metal on metal noise and a round bit of metal that looks like a clutch. Hmmmm... What to do? Its off to the garage Wednesday to be looked at. Any idea of costs? Should i keep it?
The motors a 55plate SRI-150 estate 105 tho on the clock. Full VXR kit, Irmscher square back box, bumper and spoiler finished with 19' snowflakes and VXR honeycomb grill. It's quick, economical and has bags of room. I'm just fed up of shelling out on motors

Front disks with pads, bought from Vauxhall, £70-ish; same for rears, fit them yourself.

The brakes arent a big worry (so to speak). £200 is what VX have quoted which i 've taken with a pinch of salt. Its the sheared lump of pig iron sitting in the engine bay. Paying out, again and again is driving me crazy!

Sounds like the crankshaft pulley has failed - a common problem. They have a piece of rubber sandwiched between the inner and outer metal hubs to act as a vibration damper. The rubber fails or debonds from the metal, and you have seen the result.

They are about £100 to replace (part cost only). Labour shouldn't be too much - an hour maximum, as sometimes the lower cambelt pulley is fixed to the crankshaft pulley.

Could it be the alternator pulley failed (pic below)? Do you mean the pulley or a bit of the alloy alternator casting? - The alternator has a small clutch within these days, fortunately replaceable fairly easily.
A larger clutch looking bit is the crank pulley as LADmachining says.

Ebay do a new alternator with a new pulley for £99!
Also as these pulleys fail regularly there are after market companies supplying them.
My trade warehouse (Maccess) now does a range of them.
