confused Diesel Pump faulty after replacement 2wks ago

    Hi guys,

2.0Dti 2005 Design. Had diesel pump replaced at dealers 2 weeks ago at a cost of £1600 total inc vat, he said he done everything at cost as we were "good customers", what does that tell you?

Initial symptoms when it failed; loss of power, kangarooing when accelerating.

Two weeks later and a new pump exactly the same!

Firstly, was the pump faulty in the first place or could it be something else?

Strangely, a week or two before the pump failed the car stalled when pulling off, it was totally inactive for about a minute - no electrics or anything. Then the key fob started to work intermittently (and then also on the spare - coincidence?) could go a day or maybe couple of days all o.k. then you'd have to unlock the car manually and set the alarm off. I kept re-programming it.

When I got the pump changed the first time, the dealer re-programmed the key and it worked fine up until a couple of days ago, then the same happened again, intermittently working.

They day the pump 'failed' for the second time my wife went to visit a friend parked and locked the car - no problem, When she returned it was unlocked, the indicators flashing (obviously the alarm had been triggered) and the front nearside window was fully down! She drove about 6 miles and the car started to kangaroo etc. etc. etc. Back to the dealer.

    What a great Christmas Eve!

Your help / suggestions is greatly appreciated.

I hear a lot of bad stories about the dealers but I have had full confidence in our local one so far.

    Hi Matt,

    You've answered your own question - C.

Are you on about the the thin pipes at the front of the engine?
I did have a split one some months ago but the symptoms with that was just lack of power, no kangarooing.

does it have to get up temprature before the kangerooing ?? if so your probably looking at crank shaft sensor. \nother hint is you cant cruise at 80 mph with out limp mode coming on.

If the above asnwers are no you need to find out if they fitted a new EDU with the pump, The edu`s were known to have a dry solder joint that needed a bit of resoldering to resolve the problem.

Sounds like ECU to me think there's more to it than pump going by the electrical problems your having, Best to get any fault codes read and post them up here

If the pump goes on the 2.0DTI (as mine did in a Vectra B), it will just die. Won't start at all. There is a seperate electronic controller for the pump on the DTIs but a pump problem would not explain the other faults and it would not be kangeroing. I'd be asking for all your money back pronto and if there is any doubt about the fuel pump system, take it to your nearest bosch diesel pump specialist. They will have the correct kit to diagnose the problem (VX don't I assure you, they can't tell if it's a pump or controller problem) and they will cost less than VX.
