    Default headlights

does anyone know if fitting 100 watt lamps will help out the dipped beam problem? (i know they ere not road legal)
HID too expensive &time consuming for me, trying to decide between osram night breakers which have been recommended on here and 100w lamps.
    advice will be appreciated, thanks

You have tried Duncan's mod to raise the supidly low setting? Do that, then fit decent bulbs.

Technically, you could fit 100w bulbs and run them through a relay so the wiring is protected.

However, wattage isn't the be all and end all. Light output is much more important (lumens/lux) and a IIRC, a NB puts out a better light than any 100w bulb

The latest NB's (NB plus) claim to have a longer life span so they might be worth a looksee http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/OSRAM-NIGHTBRE...item588b429179. I've also tried Philips Xtreme in another car but i keep going back to NB's.

You can run the 100w bulbs fine on the standard wiring, I did it for months and it was fine. However as GTR said wattage is not everything. A high output 55w one can be as good.

TBH I spent a lot of money and effort on higher power bulbs, higher output bulbs etc and they are better, but if you want a real upgrade just go HID. I like you went against it for ages because of cost/effort, but in the end its worth it. IMO the others are a waste of time. It took me three years before I tried HID's and they are really good.

But the extra heat from the bulb could end up melting the headlight lenses and reflectors.

HIDs is the best way to go.

Adjust the headlight adjusting screws on the headlamp, located under the bonnet on the headlamps them selves. Turn the vertical adjustment bolt 1 full turn to raise the beam higher. Then do the same for the other side.

Perhaps draw a line on the bolt before you turn it as to use a a guide.

Its only HIDS that will improve the light output. I tried different bulbs first, but then gave in and bought hids.

Wow what a difference, you wont regret it.
