    Default Brake Dust

    hi,

i have owned my vectra sri cdti on a 54 plate for a few weeks now and have noticed an unusual ammount of brake dust on the rear wheels, more than on the front. I know your first thought will be that i drive too fast but hey not as fast as some!, never seen this before there is probably 3 times more dust on the back wheels than on the front!, the brakes dont feel odd but could it be that the rear are binding or not set correctly? as usually the rear brakes are mainly used when applying the handbrake

any views would be greatly appreciated!

    Richard

the load sensor could be on the blink?

I've always had high levels of dust from the rears than the front, especially on our Mk4 Astra, I've put it down to it being sat for long periods unused, or being parked on a slight incline with the handbrake on.

    hmmm.
I suspect that the pads are softer or something like that on the back.

My 2nd year service has just been up and the rears had to be replaced (80% worn), although the fronts were fine (20% worn).

Both were the original sets of pads.

My 2.2dti is the same. More on the rear. I'm not a heavy braker and mine are blathered within days of washing.

Fronts and rears are about the same on mine. Whe I had the f**d mundano the rear wheels never needed cleaning they were always spotless!!! Maybe the brakes at the back didn't do anything. Suppose it was possible being a F**d

my front wheels seem to get a lot more brake dust than the rear ones, another point - how do you get brake dust on the rear wheels by putting the handbrake on unless your still moving or it being parked on a hill?????im not up on brake things

I'm glad I'm not the only one with seriously dirty rear wheels. After a clean, I only have to drive around for a couple of days before the front and rear alloys are covered in brake dust
