More F1 Changes.

Even more changes to F1 although nothing is in stone until January at the earliest.

So they reduced the overall surface area of the tyre to try and slow them down, they then reduced the engine size and in return the teams went down the aero route. So by the look of it they are now reducing the aero packages to try and slow them down again with a little give by allowing shaped floors. Tyres ar remaing ''Large & chunky'' though which is good, but the average time on full throttle is going to be reduced from 70% to 50% per lap.

Nothing to be implimented until 2013 though, but it begs the question, if the FIA wont to reduce costs then why are they bringing in all of these massive changes?

I dont know what the answer is tbh. I dont know if a single make engine and aero package with team only allowed to mess with suspension and tyres leaving it mainly down to driver talent but then you have many teams may withdraw because of that. Engines have become far more reliable so thats not so much an issue anymore. Handicap system based on the tried and tested extra ballast to make racing closer, dunno?

Its the future of our cars.

If they can make big power but not at full throttle then it will be more economical and then filter down to us.

It all stems back to senna's death. They keep trying to slow the cars down in corners, but the teams just find ways to go faster, reducing mechanical grip only made them push harder in Aero grip. That failed so they gave them back the mechanical grip (slicks) and took aero (smaller wings). TBH the last two big reg changes have brought us the best two seasons in years. F1 is a business after all, so I think they just keep shaking it up to keep it exiting.

In fairness the only talking points of last season I remember were Schumacher trying to wipe out Barrichello, Vettel taking himself out while over taking Webber and Ferrari breaking the rules(again) to which the cowards at the FIA failed to do anything about other than change the rules rather than having the bottle to throw the book at Ferrari.

I suppose it's good to see what the teams can do whaen there is a regulation change of this scale, but there seams to be a lot of contradictions in the FIA's madness that's all. Still it's sure to make a tense start to the season I suppose.

as for ferrari breaking the rules,they didnt,for 27 laps of the austrailian grand prix alonso was told wheather he or massa was faster on the previous lap(as he was stuck behind him) the same happend in germany,only difference being the tv only played 1 message,massa asked to be informed of the progress of alonso every lap,if you go onto the FIA website you can read the full documentation of all the conversations that took place between massa-pits & alonso-pits.............no mention at all of being told to move over

LOL, Massa's own Chief mechanic made it pretty obvious what had gone on, not just via the pit radio but tv interviews many races later. I see nothing wrong really with team orders, as said its a business and winning is money, but rules are rules. this season we play by a new set of rules......

The FIA has a habit of molding the rules to get the results they want. Just look at the Le Mans series when the TDi cars first came into it.

At the rate they are trying to slow the cars down, shortly the Fiat 500 will be faster!
